Artist's Comments
On June 23, 2006, our volunteer fire dept responded to a gas well explosion and fire. No one was injured, the drilling rig was damaged but salvageable, and the well was safely capped. We were on scene for 28 1/2 hours. Around 11:30 at night, I was taking some pictures of the burning well from the hill above it, where we had a deck gun spraying water onto the rig to keep it cool. I hit the button at just the right time, and got this shot of "The Dragon" emerging from its lair. The image was taken using a Sony Cybershot DSC-P200 7.2 MP camera, and is unaltered except for cropping the image and rotating it 90 degrees.
